Let’s continue with our looking at follow-up or chaining
techniques together. We have been through a number of techniques now so you
know what this segment is all about, mainly what to do if your first technique
doesn’t work.
There are lots of reasons why a technique may not work,
it was done poorly, the attacker moved in a way you didn’t anticipate, the
softening strikes didn’t work… In the case of the inside hock or ouchi gari throw,
you fail to get them back on their heels and their leg just doesn’t move.
Here are some possible follow up ideas:
- Knee groin and continue with inside hock
- Knee groin change to guillotine to outside hock to finish.
- Grab lapel, push and switch to lapel shoulder throw.
- Knee groin, hammer lock.
Note that sometimes in a failed technique we can go
directly to another technique and other times it’s beneficial to add another
softening strike. The point is to always keep your attacker off balance both literally
and metaphorically. If their trying to defend what you’re doing or recovering
from a strike it’s very hard for them to attack.
Now there are many options these are just a few, think
about what techniques you would go it and tray them out.
